Till next year!

July 29, 2014

So I woke up this morning knowing that the holiday was over for another year. Think I said in my previous blog that since my little granddaughter was four years old I have taken her away every year for a summer holiday. Girls on tour! And I have more fun with her than someone of my own age. She’s eight going on nineteen and a great companion, but as we fly back to the UK tonight with the most awesome of memories I’m now thinking I could do with another holiday to recover. A barrel of laughs yet again, we spent a week visiting friends in the region of Murcia then took the most picturesque drive along the A92 towards Granada and onto the Costa del Sol to spend a few more days with friends before returning to the UK. Twelve days in all and she is now; quote, ‘looking forward to seeing Mummy and Daddy again,’ whilst I’m looking forward to seeing Butler and Gracie. Ho ho! If you read my blogs you will soon find out who they are!

Spain was hot, too hot for me but apparently with a current heat wave in the UK we can expect high temperatures in Yorkshire and then we won’t have the luxury of dipping in and out of the pool as and when we so desire will we? Great memories aye!

Speaking of the heat I have come across several people this past few months suffering with skin cancer, two of which have had to undergo quite extensive facial surgery. I still don’t think people take the dangers of the sun seriously enough. And I was blown away to read about the woman who left a 10 month old baby in the car, windows closed for 20 minutes while she scooted around one or two local shops. Can you believe it? The police were called and had to smash the car windows to rescue the child who was becoming increasingly distressed. I wouldn’t even do that to a dog! What is wrong with these people? Certainly not fit to be parents, and if I had any say in the matter she wouldn’t get the child back! It makes me think of certain people who leave their children in hotel rooms or apartments while they socialise with friends, and then create when they come to harm or worse still disappear. I think we all know who I’m talking about.

So holiday or no holiday, if you’re spending time with young children this summer, whether they be your own or are on loan, take good care of them. As for the sun avoid 12 noon until 4pm when the sun’s rays are at their hottest. We did most of our swimming between 5 and 7 every day and the water was lovely. The mornings are a great time to go out and about and try and take a short siesta after lunch, then you can party till late.

Actually, a siesta is very beneficial if it forms part of a regular routine and the ideal length is about 26 minutes, according to research by the American Space Agency, NASA.

On that point enjoy the rest of the school holidays ‘cos before you know it August will be out and they will be back to school.
