Protester demands justice in Mexico

June 10, 2011

The bereaved mother of a man who was killed in drug-related violence in Mexico has said she wants to see the killer brought to justice.

Guadalupe Retana is among those taking part in the peace caravan, a major protest designed to pressure the government into doing more to stop ongoing drug wars.

Speaking to BBC News, she said she does not know who killed her son and does not even feel hatred towards the perpetrator of the crime.

However, Ms Retana stated that she does want to see the killer go to prison in order to see justice done.

She revealed that she continues to fear for the safety of her family after Juan Carlos Villamil Retana, 36, was shot in June last year.

"I am scared something will happen to them too," Ms Retana commented.

Amparo Castillo, another protester, was meanwhile quoted by the Guardian as saying that her son was killed by drug cartels because he did not want to become a gunman.
