Peter Andre backs literacy scheme in London

June 17, 2011

Former pop star Peter Andre has agreed to help young children learn to read under a new scheme launched by Mayor of London Boris Johnson.

Joining the Mayor, along with children aged three to five years old, at the launch of the initiative at Botwell Green Library, Andre encouraged parents to help kids enjoy reading.

Those who are struggling with their learning development due to a lack of literacy skills are the target of the scheme, which will create reading ambassadors and literacy champions who will work one-on-one with children across London.

Peter Andre said: "I'm a parent myself [and] I've shared [my] passion for stories with my children. I love talking to them about their day and reading them bedtime stories."

He added that reeading does not need to be "a chore".

Since appearing on reality show I'm A Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here!, Andre has made a comeback in the pop business, releasing three solo albums and another with his then-wife Katie Price.
