Party Time

April 15, 2016

When this blog goes live it will be celebration day.
My birthday, my parents 60th wedding anniversary, a book launch and more.

It’s been a tough six months with so many obstacles to overcome, but we soldier on. It’s sad that I have special people around me struggling – some who I love dearly – and due to health issues won’t be at tonight’s party.
I know they will want me to have fun and enjoy, and this day marks not only a special birthday but the realisation of the vision for the series Rianbo’s Travels.
I blogged about Rianbo recently, March 3rd actually so I won’t repeat everything because the blog is there to read.
What I will say is this is a very exciting time for me after all these years, and thrilling for Lisa Fox the illustrator who will also be at the the party.
Writing a children’s picture book is not an easy feat. It’s surprising how much research, planning, writing, editing and re- editing goes into something which seems ultimately so simple. Of course the illustrations are most important and working with Lisa has been great. She has captured everything I want to portray in each story.
The books – which are both educational and entertaining – all begin with the doll Rianbo – who lives in the red drawer, in the big chest of drawers, in the sunshine room at the children’s nursery school, based obviously on my own setting Rainbow Childcare.

Here are three of the books and their blurb.

Mexico City cover

Rianbo visits Mexico City with Maria and her parents when they go for a family holiday.
‘One of the best holidays I have ever had,’ she says. Well she did dance with the famous Mariachis and climbed to the top of the statue of the beautiful golden Angel.

New York cover

Rianbo the mischievous doll from the children’s nursery school sneaks into Flynn’s bag when she hears a discussion that he is going on a trip to New York with his parents.
What a fabulous time they all had.

Beijing cover

Rianbo travels to Bejing with Jay when they go to visit his grandparents.
She has tremendous fun riding on a dragon in the New Year Parade. She is so mischievous. I wonder how she even gets onto the dragon?

Available on Amazon and from Sharon House Publishing these books will make a fabulous collection for pre- school children.

Now it’s time to eat cake. Back to the diet and juicing after the weekend.
