Parents ‘should communicate with kids before they go back to school’

August 25, 2011

UK parents should take the time to communicate with their children before the new school year to ease any fears they might have and to give them more confidence.

Lizzie Hardy, spokeswoman for Bio-Kult, has urged parents to realise that children can be apprehensive about their studies and it is therefore important for them to be reassured that they will have the full support of their family in everything they do.

She commented: "[It is about] getting them into a routine, getting them used to getting up early in the morning, early to bed, sitting down around the table for set meal times."

Meanwhile, Di Hatchett, director of the Every Child a Chance Trust, recently argued that children should be encouraged to read in a wide range of mediums, not just books.

Indeed, she argued that child literacy can be improved if young people are exposed to all forms of the written word, from web pages to magazines.
