New life

May 6, 2015

We all need a time of refreshing, relaxation and stillness. After a hectic few months I felt my brain was suffering overload, so after the London Book Fair I made the most of the opportunity – a lull in my timetable – and set off to visit friends in Spain.
An opportunity to re charge my batteries and top up with some good old Vitamin D.
My itinerary, which encompassed a flight to Malaga, two days on the coast and then the fabulous scenic drive via Granada to the Sierra region of Baza was breathtaking as always, and never ceases to inspire me.
Thinking about life and death whilst driving and admiring God’s creation, yes sounds grim but I had recently attended a funeral, and there is nothing more certain than the fact that our days are numbered. I wondered what type of people were travelling on the road before and after me. Stopping at café bars en route – I love people watching.

Now I intend to live a long time and achieve so much more than I have already – God willing – and I am reminded of a very positive comment made to me by an American agent at the Book Fair. It went something like this,

‘You are so full of creativity, and it’s the passion and determination embodied within you that will lead to your success.’

Hum!

So the purpose of this blog today is to ask the reader if you are thinking about your life and what is deep within your soul. Do you need to make changes now? Imagine your last moments, would you be thinking, I wish?
No! Maybe you don’t like to think or talk about such stuff. Well listen up for a minute.

You can’t alter the inevitable, you will, we will all die one day. So do you want to make changes before it is too late?

I heard that some of the most common regrets a person has when they are about to pass are;-

  • I never pursued my dreams and aspirations.
  • I worked too much
  • I didn’t spend enough time with that person.
  • I neglected my family
  • I should have said I love you more often.
  • I should have stressed less and not worried so.
  • There is so much more I would like to have achieved
  • Why didn’t I ……? And What if….

Orange tree

Yellow roses

So why have I just posted the two random pictures of the tiny orange tree and the small yellow rose bush? Well to me they speak volumes, they are symbols of new life. The fruit in our lives that could be.

Several years ago I planted them from tiny siblings and this is the first year that both have not only shot up but have borne so much fruit. When I arrived at my family home in rural Spain last week, I was astounded to see the rapid growth. That said for years there had been little to see.

Now I know that when my time here is done, God showed me through nature that which I have planted will remain. With our lives what legacy do you or I choose to leave behind?

Will we have regrets or do we need to make change now, before it is too late?

In conclusion, perhaps you are not able to take a holiday at the moment but I’m sure you can manage a little time out. Schedule in some rest and relaxation. Re-charge your batteries and do some thinking.

Life is for living, no regrets!
