Mexico police seeking suspects after arson

August 31, 2011

The Mexican police force are seeking seven suspects following an arson attack on a casino in Medina that resulted in the deaths of 52 individuals.

Up to 12 perpetrators are thought to have been involved in the incident, with five already in custody by the Mexican authorities, Nuevo Leon state governor Rodrigo Medina revealed.

Terrified customers and employees of the casino ran deep inside the building after the assailants ignited gasoline at the entrance to the Casino Royale. Many of those who died did so as a result of smoke inhalation when they could not escape the blaze.

Meanwhile, two suspected Mexican gang members were arrested by US authorities earlier this month after they attempted to smuggle 32 pounds of marijuana across the Mexico-US border.

Officials found 16 bricks of marijuana, valued at around $16,000 (£9,697) when the suspects fled their vehicle after being ordered to stop by Customs and Border Protection agents.
