London…World Book Week

March 1, 2012

O.K. Three schools down, one more to go, then back to Yorkshire. Yesterday was a great day with kids at St Peter’s Primary School, Eaton Square making me very welcome and all enjoying my Chavos workshop. I left with a pile of creative work that they all eagerly produced as we looked at character development. Tuesday proved to be a good day as many of the kids had done some research before I arrived and were armed with questions, eager to know about the inspiration behind the Chavos books.

As I walked from my Eaton Square School, leaving all the kids feeling inspired, I meandered to my next appointment a few blocks away. Such a lovely afternoon, I couldn’t help but be impressed by the fabulous town houses which lined the neighbouring streets. Glancing in the window of a small estate agent, I was able to see that to rent one of these very elegant properties would cost somewhere in the region of £3.000 – £5.000 per month. Imagine that! I don’t think Anna Mckann is ever going to be renting in the area. I then entered Belgrave Square which hosts many of the Embassy buildings and strolled towards Canning House for my meeting with the Mexican Chamber of Commerce.

My third school this week was to my delight situated just around the corner from the fabulous Westminster Abbey. I expect you are going to guess what I did after my school visit. Yes, into the Abbey I went and sat quietly for a while as one does in these places, contemplating life. Then a short taxi drive back to my digs, passed all the dog walkers and joggers in Hyde Park, I did rather wish I had my two little dogs with me. Butler and Gracie came to mind and I fleetingly felt home sick. Awh! Hailing a black cab, I discovered that yet another London cabbie will NOT be working during the Olympics. It seems that all the locals are determined to leave London or take vacations, as the Olympic revellers move in.

OK, so no school dinner today I rather fancied a pizza which I thought would satisfy that ever groaning stomach. Proudly, I had survived another day without a chocolate fix. Actually, I have been surprised in the last couple of days just how many kids and teachers have given something up for lent and interestingly many of them chose chocolate. As for me, I’m so looking forward to that giant Easter egg which I intend to greedily demolish when this period of fasting is over.

Not decided what to do tonight yet, but I have some interesting options.
