Literacy made fun ‘helps those with dyslexia’

December 7, 2011

Children's literacy for those with learning difficulties is to be aided by the development of a new online system.

Mother and animator, Linda O'Sullivan, from County Clare, Ireland, has been working on an application to help dyslexic schoolchildren learn how to read in a fun and interactive way.

The programme features the story of a legendary Irish pirate named Grainne Mhaol which children can read for themselves while looking at the interactive images to go with the tale.

Ms O'Sullivan said: "This is the first product of its kind designed in Ireland and it's all about creating a fun environment for children who are struggling with reading, or even reluctant to read."

She added that children will learn better when they are having fun and that the application will keep them entertained as well as educationally engaged.

According to dyslexia-teacher.co.uk, eight per cent of the population have the condition which is best coped with through continuous aid and schooling.
