Home is where the heart is

August 19, 2013

Well, well, as I thought! Ten days of childlike fun and I’m back in Yorkshire needing a holiday. Truly worn out but, with memories you can never take away.

The thought of the lovely warm pool and the early morning swim is what I am missing already. Would I do it again with a 7 year old? Interesting question, and yes I would but, for 10 days on my own, I don’t think so. Let’s be sensible next time and make it 7 days.

Yesterday I did the usual after holiday stuff such as get my hair trimmed and the gel nails repaired whilst chatting to the other girls in the salon, who all thought I was crazy. Well that’s not new then; my favourite quote is, “am I crazy or what?” The fact is children are hard work in the nicest possible way. Mentally there is no rest. I was surprised how my little granddaughter kept going. No such thing as an early night or siesta. Well she did warn me before we left not to take any work with me ‘cos I wouldn’t get time to do it. Hum! I didn’t even open the holiday novel that we all pack for those foreign trips.

As for the holiday grouch, I need to have at least one more. The car rental! Or should I say the scam? Why do they charge you for a full tank of petrol and ask you to return it empty when quite often you simply don’t use it. No matter how hard you might try there is only so much running around that you can do within sensible parameters. So yet again the flipping car hire company got half a tank of diesel courtesy of me! I rent with them many times each year and we still have this argument. I’m a business woman but at least I’m fair and I hate greedy business men or women for that matter!

O.K. so pleased that I returned home to a quiet weekend and, once the batteries are recharged, I’m looking forward to that visit to the Leeds Grand to see Hairspray and then, a day at York Races. Girlie time! I suspect that little granddaughter is doing plenty of sleeping and on catch up too.

So bring on the Bank Holiday and the lovely weather that we have been promised and then back to work.

Of course I’m looking forward to Chavosing and will keep you updated but, one of the great events on the calendar in the autumn will be the Chavos Ball in October. If you’re in Yorkshire don’t miss it. And my final comment is, where did the year go?
