Brain Power

April 3, 2014

The power of the mind, think positive and you will reap positive results. How often have you heard that? We are what we think!

The interesting thing is the Bible is full of quotes about the power of the mind and re-defining our thoughts. And before you think I’m going into a preach, no I’m not but I’m fascinated by the stuff I read in the Bible and how much of it is proven today by modern science, fact and technology.

So back to ones’ thoughts and the question is, do you have people in your life who drive you crazy? And no matter how hard you try to encourage them they’re still not having it? Well there comes a time when you have to get them out of your life because their negativity will simply drag you into a depressive state yourself. Fact!

Now I’m not being insensitive and we all have those dark days, plus there are people with very real issues, which has led them on a path to clinical depression. Those people whose needs are only addres sed through professional counselling and sometimes medication.  I’m not talking about them, I’m talking about the moaners around us who are selfish, never satisfied and so need to get a grip on life. They’re so caught up in themselves they can’t look beyond.  It’s time they were made to take a serious look at the world and then maybe they would realise how fortunate they are. Know anyone like that? Course you do!

Yes I believe in God and often ask why this and why that but you don’t even have to be a believer to see how blessed many of us are. Some folks just need to take a serious look at the lives of many people out there and be more grateful. I wish that more had the compassion to help others instead of just thinking about themselves. I quote the man who said to me recently,’ I earn too much and don’t even spend my salary I live off my interest.’ And, the woman who keeps moaning she hasn’t worked for years, can’t get a job and has nothing to do all day…BUT… has more than enough income to survive from her rental assets. So, do some voluntary work. Drrr…. Be kind to others, give back to society. Don’t get me started!

I have just read a great book by Dr. Caroline Leaf, an American who has worked in the area of cognitive neuroscience for about 30 years. As she seems to have the ability to merge science and the Bible I have been totally immersed in her book, ‘Switch on your Brain.’ Everyone ought to read this book but basically the first few lines read as follows,

‘What would you do if you found a switch that could turn on your brain and enable you to be happier, healthier in your mind and body, more prosperous and more intelligent?

Curious? So was I so I speedily read the book. Will summarise what the book says in my next blog, have to dash now.

Chat soon and stay positive.
