Girls night out

August 11, 2017

Last week I went to the theatre to see Jane Eyre. What an amazing production! Charlotte Bronte’s first novel was always a priority read during my school days? Now on tour with a star cast this musical had its world premiere at the Grand Theatre Leeds. The production had me captivated by the small but most excellent cast. Of course the fact that it is a great Yorkshire story, and I’m a Yorkshire lass made it even more wonderful.

Apart from a couple of local youth productions – which were tremendous – my theatre trip was long overdue.
I’m now looking forward to the Autumn theatre season with Our House, The Wedding Singer, Fat Friends and more, all planned for the next few weeks.

I think the one I’m most looking forward to has to be Fat Friends. Yes, I’m going with a group of great girls – not fat in this case – and I’ve insisted we take a box of dunkin doughnuts to eat during the interval. Just need to make a statement of course. Interestingly, my little granddaughter was flabbergasted when she heard me speak of the musical.
Quote, ‘Fat Friends! Nanny, are they allowed to say that? It sounds mean.’

Well they did say that, and of course the production is based on Kay Mellor’s TV series Fat Friends. I didn’t watch it personally but I believe it was very successful. Clearly so if it’s been adapted for stage.

So whilst we’re on the subject of musical theatre, it’s once again time to mention the Chavos production. I remember blogging several months ago and saying we were nearly ready to book a theatre. And so we were, but stuff happens. Those little interruptions in life which take priority. Hum!
But isn’t it interesting when you look back and thank God for the delay. When you start rolling again, perhaps with fresh eyes, and start to do re-writes and amendments.

That said, I also had to deal with a case of potential plagiarism with one of the musicians. Enough said about that. But in actual fact it did me a favour. Changes made for the better and I’m impressed with all the new music.
So, we are nearer. It will happen and once again looking at dates and theatres. The Grand Theatre Leeds is a fabulous location, and certainly would be my choice if it were possible.

You may not read the Bible but it has a wealth of wisdom within its pages. One of my favourite readings is, Habakkuk 2 verse 3. The vision awaits the appointed time.

Will keep you updated and meanwhile book yourself some theatre tickets. So many great productions on tour at the moment.

Chat soon.
