Wedding Day

April 29, 2011

Tomorrow is the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton, and as I watch some of the preparations on TV it certainly brings back memories.
No, not of my wedding day. Ha! Ha! But of Charles and Diana!
I recollect all those years ago, joining the revellers in London camping out to get a glimpse of the beautiful bride to be. What a night that was, a night never to forget. With our sleeping bags and hot flasks we arrived about 8pm the night before, and were lucky enough to get a brilliant front-line position. There we were, waiting for the moment when she would arrive. Did we sleep? Hardly. Too excited, I think!
At 6am the buzz began on the streets as the cleaners and road sweepers arrived once again for the final, pre-procession tidy up! Some of us did get a showering from the jet washes, I have to say. Thankfully the pubs stayed open most of the night and did re-open early offering bacon sarnies and  facilities for a quick freshen up, not to mention the loo of course.
How terribly sad that we lost our beautiful princess, and she is not here to celebrate with her son this weekend.
What I do believe is that he has many of his mother’s characteristics and as we watch his life unfold, I think we will be very proud of our young Prince.
Congratulations William and Kate. I hope as a country we will be able to look back one day, and as they say in the story books;- The handsome Prince and his beautiful bride lived happily ever after.
Will I be watching the wedding tomorrow? Well, I will not be glued to the telly, but I am watching the highlights. As for camping out on the streets of London all night, that certainly no longer appeals to me.
What a thought. I hope it doesn’t rain.

Have a nice day ye all.
