Going South

August 1, 2011

Just returned from a few days in London.
The weather was absolutely fab, and although I was tempted to get on one of those famous London open top buses, sit upstairs and take a trip down memory lane, I quite simply didn’t have time. Yeah. I used to live in the city many years ago, in fact driving around, dodging and weaving in and out of those famous London cabs was something that I did with ease. Don’t think I’d like to brave that today as London is far, far, busier than ever it was. I’ve even heard people complain about the fumes on a bad day. At this rate we’ll soon be catching up Mexico City for pollution levels.  Oops! You know I love Mexico.
Thinking of Mexico, I’ve been in the company of quite a lot of Mexicans these last few days. A visit to Canning House in Belgravia square; in actual fact two visits to Canning House. On one occasion I enjoyed an evening of music with singer song writer Clara Sanabras and Israeli lutenist Yair Avidor. What an awesome evening that was.
I later fulfilled one of my ambitions and finally went to the Mexican restaurant Mestizo’s and had some “real”  Mexican food whilst chatting to one of the UK’s leading Mariachis, Salvador Jimenez Hernandez, www.mariachimexteca, who I’m pleased to announce  will be working with me on several projects  over the next couple of years.  I’m also looking forward to welcoming him and his band as they entertain us at the Chavos Ball in Leeds on the 29th October this year.
So in the last few days I have met many colourful characters; writers, musicians, businessmen and women to mention but a few. I finished off my trip with a delicious Margarita cocktail. If you’ve never tried one then you simply must sample that delicious tequila, mixed with orange flavoured liqueur and lime, shaken with ice and sipped through a decorative glass with salt around the rim. Mexican food and drink is always colourful and well presented, but if you try it, go easy on the mole sauce! I remember that time in Mexico City when I had my first chicken dish with mole followed by mango ice cream. Ergh! Not a good combination for a delicate English stomach.

Catch up soon.
