The spice of life

March 3, 2015

Well they say variety is the spice of life and this next couple of weeks I’m certainly going to have plenty of that.

Firstly I was looking forward to dancing on the ceiling with the fabulous Lionel Richie – not literally of course – but I sure didn’t intend to SIT with a VIP ticket to his ‘All The Hits, All Night Long’ tour. A very welcome early birthday present from a great friend. Yes we could all do with a friend like that!

So Lionel kicked off the week, then a lovely drive from Yorkshire to Kent to visit Sandhurst Primary School, with a packed day of creative writing workshops.

Oh and of course story time with the little ones – Bless! With a background in pre-school it’s always delightful to spend a little time with the younger children, and yes it’s ‘World Book Week’ so they want to see the author too, don’t they?
Shame I haven’t time to visit Hastings and some of the historical sites in the locality but I’m due in Harrogate in a couple of days for the Yorkshire Ladies Links Conference. Then a few other things in between followed by a quick visit to Spain.

Not all weeks are like that by the way – probably a good thing as it would be hard to keep up the momentum!

I’m sure we have all heard the expression, all or nothing. Well it’s so true. Isn’t life strange! We seem to have nothing exciting happening and then everything comes at once. It takes me back to my youth when I would wait around patiently for a bus for absolutely ages – probably shivering in the wind and rain – then suddenly they would all come together. So annoying!

And youth, what’s youth? So happy to be older and wiser now. And grateful to the lady who takes good care of my little dogs while I travel. I’m going to say life begins at 50.

Meanwhile that seems to be a very lucrative business these days. Dog-minding at home is the new childminding I think. Whatever, whichever. There are so many people these days who seem to be earning their money without leaving home other than a jaunt to the park and back. Good luck to them, and there is clearly a need for both. But make sure they are registered with the local authority and they are doing things properly before you go down that route. There are strict rules for the care of dogs now as well as children.

So whether it’s doggy care, child care or something else on the agenda, have a great week.

And remember, variety is the spice of life so do something different. Accept that invitation. And read a book…

Have a great week.
