The fat of the land

June 19, 2015

Well what an amazing couple of days that was. Visiting friends in Sillar Baja, a picturesque little pueblo laying in a reserve high in the mountains near the A92 between Guadix and Granada.

And what did I find?
Apart from the great company, the natural springs – where the water tasted the most delicious and was freely available to all. What a great blessing.
Off to the plaza with empty water carriers one in each hand, and a short walk back was the extent of my exercise that day.
Too hot to swim so missed the opportunity for a dip, but told there are hot springs, lakes and waterfalls all to be enjoyed. During the cool of the evening it has to be I think, so next time! If I’m invited again? And something tells me I have an open invitation, whoop whoop!

Home grown produce served with the utmost hospitality by a couple of the older village residents – who were eager to share their experiences, traditions and village life – was wonderful. Not imaginary, but fact! I have never tasted such delicious cherries, tomatoes and crunchy salad. That’s how God intended it to be, isn’t it? The fat of the land. Organic to the core, no sprays, additives or insecticides.

Then, as we started chatting about healthy eating I remembered reading an article some time ago about Spain being officially the healthiest country in Europe to live. Well I certainly love this Mediterranean diet and sadly today we do eat too much pre-packed rubbish.

On that note I’m heading back to Yorkshire, for a while at least. But Spain, I’ll be back!
