Ofsted’s satisfactory grade to be replaced

January 17, 2012

Schools will no longer be allowed to be 'satisfactory' under Ofsted guidance, which unions have claimed is a ploy to turn more institutions into academies.

The educational regulatory body said that from now on, schools will be given 'requires improvement' grades and comprehensive suggestions of areas that need to be bettered.

Ofsted has insisted that this is a move to tackle the number of schools that are struggling and increase the frequency with which such facilities are inspected.

Those that are deemed to require improvements will be inspected again after 12 to 18 months, instead of the usual four-yearly checks.

But Christine Blower from the National Union of Teachers claimed that the decision will only take more schools away from local authority control.

Ofsted recently announced that it would put an end to inspection notifications after it was claimed that bad teachers and unruly pupils were being removed from the school to gain better results.
