Back to school…

September 1, 2014

Back to school in a few days and you hear us all saying, ‘I can’t believeI it’s September already. It will be Christmas soon!’ Not to mention the children are planning their request lists. Nothing like plenty of notice, thanks for that kids! But what about those who don’t know what Christmas is? Those who cannot imagine what it would be like not to have to walk all day for a bucket of water. Those children who have a meagre bowl of rice for every meal and that’s when they are lucky. So many of the world’s children are spoilt the others suffering beyond belief.

So sad. So what can we do about it? Well everyone can do a little something and many do. But not enough! It’s interesting to see how the ice bucket challenge has gained momentum and raised thousands for it’s chosen charity.
I think I’m going to challenge everyone in my office to come up with a fundraising idea and put it in to action before the end of the year.

Meanwhile, it seems I’m going to be out and about this next school term. I had thought I would be spending the next three months writing because I have so many unfinished projects on the go. I’m now planning to visit a few schools, one or two exhibitions and conferences and sourcing freebies for the children’s hampers (my idea – woop woop )that we are going to do this Christmas. How did that happen?
Hum, life is full of surprises and often the more you do the more you want to do.

There are plenty of children even in the UK who won’t get many treats if any at Christmas. Isn’t it interesting that local communities, churches and organisations often do food hampers but no one does anything for the children.
S-o-o, let’s see what we can do in our community.

This is a photo of a sample we did earlier and though it’s hard to see the precise contents you get the gist. I have no idea at this point how many we will distribute but it’s going to be fun preparing them and of course there will be plenty of happy little faces when they are delivered.
